The idea was born from our love of being on the mountains, discovering untouched powder snow and with the change of our way of thinking for our lives in İstanbul after Gezi. Dreams of two friends have come to life with the brand named 'Occupy Mountains'.

Occupy Mountains skis are made to be on the mountains in very demanding slopes by manpower. They have been produced using SAP epoxy and sustainable wood. For making our skis, the commitment to craftsmanship, quality and sustainability has led us to work with a boutique and prestigious brand producing high quality handmade skis. And thus after researching the top candidates around the world we choose to collaborate with the Praxis Skis company which is one of the most reliable and reputable ski manufacturer in USA in Sierra Nevada. Design of ONE53 and ONE74 have been made by the input of dozens of friends who has big love for mountains and skiing. Thus it made those skis special. The first series of our skis is a tribute to Gezi.

Sidecut: The inner curvature of a ski, measured by the difference between the narrowest point in waist of a ski to the widest points at the tip and tail. The curvature due to sidecut is the key component in creating a turning radius; the more drastic the sidecut, the sharper the turn. Also larger sidecut means narrower the Width of ski under the boot, hence it will tend to sink deeper into the snow.

Sidecut Radius: It is a function of the Sidecut, where the Sidecut or the turning Radius equals the approximate natural circle that a pair of skis can make on edge. This imaginary radius is tangent to the edge of the ski between the tip and the tail. These two variables are inversely proportional, that is the smaller the radius the larger the side cut.

Effective Edge: The length of metal edges on the ski that is in actual contact with the snow. Today's shaped skis have a longer effective edge, resulting in a more stable ski. The shorter the Effective Edge however, will make turns easier.

Width: Measurement taken of the narrowest portion across a ski. This is usually in the middle of the sidecut.

Flexibility: This is relative term for the stiffness of a ski. It is used to describe how much a ski or snowboard bends when pressure is applied; typically, the more expert a skier, the stiffer the ski. A softer-flexed ski will perform better on soft, deep snow, whereas a stiff-flexed ski handles better on hard-packed snow. One can have a feel for the flexibility of different skis by pushing each one, while they are lying down flat on table or floor.

CONSTRUCTION & TECHNOLOGIE

The core of the Occupy Mountains skis made by Praxis is made out of three types of wood: hard maple, ash, and paulownia. Each species of wood is used strategically for a specific purpose. The ash is used in the center of the ski and the perimeter of the ski. This provides a strong frame for the ski that smoothes out and dampens the ride. Hard maple is used to create a solid center in the ski for binding mounts. Paulownia is a very lightweight hardwood and is used in the rest of the skis core. The combination of these hand-selected woods creates a strong, damp, lightweight core.

One of the biggest factors that separate the skis made by Praxis from the crowd can be seen in the actual creation of the cores. They use a woodworkerÕs practice in the core creation known as Book Ended or Book Matched. This is a unique process that is a great example of how Praxis goes one step further than other manufacturers. They do this to assure that each pair of skis has a pair of cores created together from the same exact wood grains and densities, giving you an identical weight, flex, and feel for your left and right skis. Base and Edge of the skis are fully protected by over-sized edges that wrap 360 degrees around the skiÕs perimeter. The tip and tails of the skiÕs edge are specially prepared to be more impact resistant, better bonding and molded to the upturn of the ski for a longer lasting construction. The bases are created out of an extra-thick 4001 sintered UHMW. This high-grade base material provides excellent wax absorption properties and is proven to be one of the fastest running and most durable base materials offered in the industry.
